Susan Meyer, Greater Valley Artists

12.01.2023 — 01.31.2024

Based in Hudson NY, Susan Meyer’s work is influenced by experimental communities, “they epitomize our best and worst instincts colliding.” The geodesic domes at Drop City, an early commune in Trinidad, Colorado, are an influence, as are modernist conversation benches found on the edge of Washington Park in Albany, NY. Relics of a future-forward period embraced now more for its visual than its vision.  Textile design, along with found painting, and graffiti inform Pigeon Quilt; the title refers to a tag, pigeon, seen often on the streets and buildings of Hudson, NY. Meyers is currently working on a commissioned piece for The Albany International Airport.

Susan Meyer received her BS in Art from Skidmore College and her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Her work has been featured in solo and group shows across the United States, including The Tang Museum at Skidmore College, Saratoga, New York; The Korean Cultural Center, New York, New York; Fridman Gallery, Beacon, New York; Flinn Gallery, Greenwich, CT; Thompson Giroux Gallery, Chatham, New York; Woodstock Artists Association and Museum, Woodstock, New York; Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, New York, New York; Plus Gallery, Denver, Colorado; Boulder MOCA, Boulder, Colorado, and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver, Colorado; among others.
